Leonard S. Tanaka, President & RME

Mr. Tanaka graduated with honors in 1976 from the University of Hawaii Community College, with an A.S. degree in Electrical Construction Maintenance and Technology. He obtained his electrical contractor's license in 1983, and along with his wife, Suellen, founded T & T Electric, Inc.

In 1993 he obtained his general contractor's license, and in 2005, he received his general engineering contractor's license.

Mr. Tanaka has an extensive construction background in all phases of electrical construction, maintenance and repairs. He has experience with residential, commercial and industrial systems, and also in pole and line construction, as well as energy management, data / telecommunications / fiber optics, home automation, fire and burglar alarm systems, and renewable energy systems. He is also knowledgeable about lighting retrofits, and energy efficiency systems.

In 2004, Mr. Tanaka created KA'IULANI 4, LLC to better manage the civil and general building activities for the corporation. This includes water, septic, drainage, roadway systems, subdivision development, vertical construction, and renovations.

Mr. Tanaka believes in giving back to the community, and serves/has served on a variety of boards, commissions and community groups. These include:

Suellen M. Tanaka, Vice President

With a background in banking and accounting, Suellen Tanaka handles the operating responsibilities, such as supervision of the accounting department and human resource department.

Leonard and Suellen were selected by the U.S. Small Business Association as "Small Business Persons of the Year" in 1992. This recognition included both the State of Hawaii and Region IX, which includes the western United States and Guam.

Thomas Raffipiy, GM, Project Administrator, & Health and Safety Officer
Since his employment with T & T Electric, Inc., Mr. Raffipiy has managed over 100 projects, ranging in scope from electrical retrofit and upgrades to multi-million dollar new construction projects. He has brought a wealth of knowledge and experience from his extensive working relationship with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Ben Kobayashi, Estimator / Project Manager
Operating out of our office in Lihue, Kauai, Kobayashi is responsible for all major commercial, industrial and institutional estimating operating with over 33 years of project supervision experience. He is a licensed electrical contractor that has experience with projects of all sizes.
Levi McKay, Estimator / Project Manager
McKay is an estimator and project manager responsible bidding, management, cost control and quality control. With extensive experience in all phases of construction, Levi has worked on  and managed a variety of industrial and commercial projects.

Community Service
We here at T&T Electric believe in improving the lives around that affect us and giving back to the community. That is why for the past 33 years we have been the official electrical contractor for the Merrie Monarch Festival and we are proud to be helping again this year. 

We are also deeply involved with the Hilo community where we light up the town with light for the Christmas season.
